The College of Education at the University of Central Florida, along with the School of Education, Health, and Society at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio is pleased to announce the creation of a new online journal dedicated to the education of English Language Learners in contexts where English is the lingua franca of the region or nation.
The Tapestry Journal is grounded in the disciplines of second language acquisition and English as a second language, but its purpose is to integrate research and best practices in a variety of fields as they relate specifically to English language learners. The journal’s objective is to disseminate emerging research and best practices and seeks articles and commentaries concerning any aspect of educating English language learners in P-12 classrooms in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and other English-speaking areas around the world, such as teacher education approaches, standards-based education, best practices in teaching language and content, technology-assisted instruction, assessment, accountability issues, counseling, social services, and community initiatives. The journal reaches out to those who assist ELLs in their daily lives and those who prepare for such a career.
The journal is divided into three sections: 1) Research and Theory; 2) Effective Practices from the Field; and 3) Commentaries.
Created under the ESOL MIAMI (English for Speakers of Other Languages Mentoring Initiative for Academics and Methods Infusion) grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition, The Tapestry Journal will be published twice a year, in May and November, exclusively on the World Wide Web. The Tapestry Journal will review only original manuscripts and does not review articles that have been published or are under consideration elsewhere.
Researchers and practitioners interested in submitting a manuscript for the inaugural issue should consult the Call for Papers or contact the Journal Editors, Joyce Nutta and Kouider Mokhtari at tapestry@mail.ucf.edu.
